PITCHING TO EXECUTIVES | OITNB's LAVERNE COX

In mid-May, I pitched the idea of creating WUSA9's first-ever LGBT pride campaign to company executives. I saw that we had to step up as leaders in the Pride movement, or else we would be doing a huge disservice to our LGBT friendly market. In the weeks since, I've been working stories on LGBT issues and talking to some of the community's leading activists, like "Orange Is The New Black" star Laverne Cox. This work has been published by WUSA9 and shared internationally. Just wanted to share it on my blog today.

As a part of the campaign, I took over the WUSA9 Instagram account from Friday, June 10th to Tuesday June 15th. I went to the Pride Parade and Festival and asked people about their LGBT EXPERIENCES -- including some response to Sunday's tragedy and a young woman who came out for the first time.
